Union Square Hosts Great Golden Keg Hunt

On May 13, 2017 at 3:00 PM Union Square, Ellsworth’s young professional’s organization, will be hosting their second annual Great Golden Keg Hunt, presented by Atlantic Brewing Company.

Up to 20 teams of up to four will make their way to participating businesses and puzzle stops throughout downtown Ellsworth to complete puzzles, games, and physical challenges. As the teams complete the tasks, they will gather clues leading them to unlock hidden (empty) golden kegs around the city.  The First team to the finish line will win over $1500 in prizes – including a $100 “tab” at each participating business, and first through third place teams will win the value of a keg of beer from Atlantic Brewing Company.

This year participating businesses include Cadillac Mountain Sports, Flex-It Café and Bakery, Down East Family YMCA, The Abbe Museum, Mike’s Country Store, Amy’s Salon and Spa, Morton’s Moo, The Ellsworth American, 86 This!, The Grand Theater, Pyramid Studios, Finn’s Irish Public House, Serendib, and The Rock and Art Shop.  Media sponsorship for the 2017 event will once again be provided by Star 97.7.

The inaugural Great Golden Keg Hunt was held in the fall of 2015, and the event was moved to spring to engage the community as we transition into summer.  “It’s a great warm up for the busy months ahead. We’ve all been hibernating since November – everyone wants to get primed for the summer, and what better way than running around town solving puzzles and winning prizes?” says event chair Spencer Patterson King. “We had a lot of fun with the first event, and so did the teams.  But they all wanted harder puzzles and more things that involved being physical and racing head-to-head with one another. We’ve put a lot of thought into changing up the gameplay to make it even more fun and challenging this year. We still have a brain-wrinkler or two, though.”

This year’s event will culminate with a finish line party at Flex-It Café and Bakery, where there will be food and beverages available and prizes raffled.  Team registration is $80, and the first ten teams registered will receive free event shirts. The top three teams win the value of a keg from Atlantic Brewing Company, and the first place team wins a $100 “tab” at each participating business. For a $5 entry fee you can attend the finish line party and be entered into the raffles for additional prizes.
