Summer Acadia Artist Retreat 2017
WINTER HARBOR – Join other artists for a creative adventure at the rocky shores and rich maritime forests of Schoodic Point at Acadia National Park, June 18 – 24, 2017. Four Master Artists and several ranger/naturalists lead a week of inspiration focusing on the maritime forest and coastal ecology in a quiet, yet spectacular area of the coast in Winter Harbor, Maine. Enjoy this unique opportunity to paint while learning more about the ecology of natural
subjects, gain inspiration from associating with other environmentally-oriented artists, and experience some of the best scenery Maine has to offer!
Comfortable housing at Schoodic Institute in Acadia National Park, and a meal plan are part of this package and allows artists to concentrate on their art. The workshop is designed to be flexible. Frequently artists gather together in the late afternoon or evening to debrief the day and critique each other’s work in a supportive atmosphere. Impromptu games of cards, social hours, and early morning walks are often arranged by participants during off time.
Program leaders include; Jana Matusz, who uses her extensive experience in plein air painting to share tips about strategy, equipment, and where to find the best places on the Schoodic Peninsula to set up your easel; Melissa Fischer, nature artist, focuses on field sketching of wildlife in their habitats, emphasizing techniques for quick sketching of moving subjects to enhance observation and learning; Ron Parlin introduces a variety of ways to start an oil painting; and, Linda Mahoney paints watercolors en plein air and will share her process of selecting her subjects.
