September 2016 Letter from the Director’s Office
Hello from High Street!
How did it get to be September already? I remember as a kid, thinking summer was endless, and there are definitely days in February that I wish that were so. I truly am however, happy to see September, and a return to a calmer pace, cooler evenings and the beautiful sapphire hue that the September ocean brings.
September brings a lot more time for community events, educational offerings and ‘time’ for enjoying the area, now that the summer rush is behind us. It also brings the chamber and community’s biggest event of the year: “Autumn Gold”. As always your Chamber is busy with preparations for the Car Show, Chowderfest, the Decorating Contest, Jumbo Jackpot and our new event, the Autumn Gold Beer and Wine tasting. You will find info on all of these events plus more elsewhere in this issue or on our website at www.ellsworthchamber.org. We would love you to volunteer some time at any of these chamber events. Just give us a call. You are guaranteed a fun day.
Fall also puts us in election season. It will be pretty hard to avoid this in the days ahead but I do want to remind our members the EACC does not endorse, contribute, or support candidates, or issues. We will certainly direct you to the information you need, within our abilities.
As younger people return to school, the Ellsworth Area Chamber is also looking ahead at what we hope will be robust educational offerings for our members. “Lunch and Learns” and “Eggs and Issues” on topics such as the new salary requirements by the Labor Department, seasonal employment issues, and more. Our Hancock County Business Conference returns this November with a full day of programming around workforce and business development. Our popular Leadership Hancock County program is also in its planning stages; applications will be available in November.
The staff at the chamber hopes you all had a busy, prosperous and fun summer. We all look forward to working with you throughout the rest of the year. Anytime is a good time, to stop by and chat, pick up or drop off information, or give us a suggestion for programming or services.
I hope to get out and see even more of our members as Fall approaches. I will see you all on Autumn Gold Saturday, stop by the car show or the waterfront. Enjoy September. It truly is one of our most spectacular months!
