Public Forum on Ellsworth Green Spaces:  Current and Future

On September 13 at 7:00PM in the Ellsworth City Hall Auditorium the Parks Subcommittee of the Ellsworth Green Plan Steering Committee will host a Public Forum on Ellsworth Green Spaces:  Current and Future.

Since the January 2017 public forum which launched this Green Plan citizens initiative, community volunteers and representatives of local organizations (Ellsworth Garden Club, Frenchman Bay Conservancy, Healthy Acadia, Downeast Salmon Federation, Ellsworth’s Historic Preservation Commission, Heart of Ellsworth, and the City of Ellsworth) have joined together to form a steering committee and acquire substantial funding to create a green plan which will address:  Green and Conserved Spaces, Waterways and Water Management, Sustainable Maintenance, Waste Management, Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development.  The plan is expected to contribute to not only the City’s revised Comprehensive Plan but also inform the short and long-term agendas of the participating organizations.

The Parks Subcommittee charged with developing a green spaces plan is seeking input from the public in a number of areas which include:

—Identification of Formal and Informal Community Green Spaces

—Policies, Management and Maintenance of Existing Public Green Spaces

—Areas Inadequately Served or Types of Spaces Not Currently Available/Publicly

—Threatened Green Spaces/Habitats

—Mechanisms for Improving the Biodiversity of Our Community

—Use of Green Spaces for Farming and Community Food Production

—Ways of Maximizing the Impact of Private Green Spaces (Commercial and

Residential, etc)

—A Vision for the Development of Additional Community Green Spaces

Residents and frequent visitors are encouraged to attend the September 13 forum.  Written submissions are also welcome.  For more information or to provide input contact Mary Blackstone at 667-8878 or [email protected]
