OHI Seeks Advisory Board Members
OHI is excited to announce its plans to open a Clubhouse in Ellsworth in 2019, providing employment opportunities and more to adults with mental illness in Hancock County. A key component to the success of this service is a robust, active Advisory Board.
A Clubhouse is a community-based social and vocational rehabilitation program rooted in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) evidence-based Clubhouse international Model (www.iccd.org). Based on the successful model established by Fountain House in New York City in 1948, the Clubhouse uniquely features employment as the primary rehabilitation tool for members to become engaged and recover functioning.
OHI envisions its Clubhouse restores people’s right to choose their life path, including the opportunity for meaningful employment, through a collaborative community dedicated to integrating all members of society. This Clubhouse empowers people to reclaim control of their lives, identity and dignity leading to a stronger community for all citizens.
OHI is a Bangor area-based nonprofit providing supports and services to about 600 adults with intellectual disabilities and mental illness in six Maine Counties. It celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2019. The agency also operates a food pantry in Brewer and a co-located thrift shop.
If you’re interested in becoming a part of the connective tissue that binds the Clubhouse to the community, helping the staff, director and members navigate the community – allowing them to understand its funding streams and power structures and act as ambassadors of the Clubhouse as well as advocated for the welfare of its members please contact us. We would love to have you on our Advisory Board.
