Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital Grateful for Community Support During Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Ellsworth — October was Breast Cancer Awareness month and Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital is especially grateful to our local businesses who helped raise fund for the Mary Dow Center and Breast Clinic.
Stanley Subaru once again sponsored its annual Test Drives for the Cure program. For each test drive last month, Stanley Subaru made a donation to the Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care and the Breast Clinic, both departments of Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth. Last week, Stanley Subaru owner Mark Politte accompanied by a great Stanley Subaru crew, delivered one Hershey kiss for every dollar raised since the beginning of the program. “This year we celebrated our 20th anniversary with $20 Test Drives for the Cure,” Politte explains. “We surpassed a total of $21,000 donated to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital’s cancer screening and treatment scholarships and programs Since Test Drives for the Cure began in 2009.”
Once again, Momo’s Cheesecake will donate a portion of their proceeds during the month of October. “We love to help our community and the Breast Clinic, the Mary Dow Center, and Women’s Health at Maine Coast Hospital is an important part of this area. What they do is amazing, and we feel it’s very important to have a breast cancer clinic right here in our community,” shares owner Brenda Ledezma. “We all have family, friends, sisters, moms, and acquaintances who may need their services one day or have already used them. We even have many customers who are breast cancer survivors, so we’re proud to have a very small part in helping out the clinic and those that it serves.”
Downtown business, The Bud Connection, is also supporting the cause by encouraging customers and those on the receiving end of a Bud Connection arrangement to return and recycle their vases. “Bud for Boobs is a great way to participate in the efforts of early detection. We are passionate about making sure people have access to a mammogram,” says owner Barbara Courchesne. “All vases and baskets recycled with us are counted towards our yearly donation towards the Mammography Scholarship Fund at Northern Light.”
Maine Coast thanks CrossFit Breakwater, as well, for their donation. On October 11, CrossFit Breakwater held a fundraiser raising money for breast cancer. “We offered six classes that day, each class doing two special workouts in honor of our female Crossfit athletes. We raised over $300 which we are donating to the Mary Dow Center,” announced Amy Dalrymple Boles
