Musician Brett Dennen Plays Criterion Stage and Leads Coastal Clean-Up

Bar Harbor – Californian musician Brett Dennen will play at The Criterion Theatre on Friday, August 11 at 8 p.m. as part of his Vacationer Series around the Northeast.

Dennen is a gifted guitarist, vocalist and lyricist who pushes for social change through his music. He has been called timeless by John Mayer and has toured with John Butler Trio, John Mayer, and Rodrigo y Gabriela. His most recent release is Por Favor, an intimate and revealing new album that strips Dennen to his core as a songwriter with nothing to hide.

“The Criterion strives to be a meeting place for the community to exchange ideas through the arts,” said Kristin Leffler, Criterion Media Manager. “Brett Dennen’s smart, narrative, and vulnerable lyrics and overall philosophy of using his art form to push for goodness and social change make him the perfect artist to showcase in our space.”

Dennen has teamed up with Friends of Acadia to lead a coastal clean-up in the morning of Friday, August 11 from 9 a.m. to noon. Upon registering with Friends of Acadia by emailing stewardship@friendsofacadia.org, participants will receive location details.

“This tour is focused on vacation spots with natural water features like beaches, lakes, rivers, bays and of course the ocean,” Dennen said in a statement about his tour. “Along with catching a show in the evening, you can join me in the daytime for some activities that combine having fun outdoors with environmental stewardship. For example, we can clean up a beach and then jump in the water to catch some waves or paddle around.”

Tickets for the Criterion show are available in advance at criteriontheatre.org and range from $18 in the general orchestra, $22 in the front section, and $28 in the balcony. The box office will open at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 11 for walk-ups.

The 1932 Criterion Theatre is Bar Harbor’s non-profit historic performing arts and movie house located at 35 Cottage Street in Bar Harbor. The Criterion has been a staple of the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island arts community since its construction in 1932 and looks forward to a long future of welcoming theatre goers.
