The Ellsworth Garden Club was organized in 1932. It is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine and the National Garden Clubs, Inc. It is devoted to the protection, and enhancement of the botanical heritage of Maine and promoting education and research to that end. It is and has been involved with numerous civic projects to achieve these objectives.
Most recently the Club in partnership with the City of Ellsworth initiated a third Green Plan process which is anticipated to take roughly 18 months and ultimately inform the updating of the city’s Comprehensive Plan. Among other civic projects the Garden Club maintains the Donald A. Little Memorial Park on State Street, participated in the restoration of the Old Burial Ground, and works with local schools on developing gardens for student education and to provide produce for the cafeterias.
