Downeast Wilderness Experience offers unique touring opportunities into Washington County. You board the Bar Harbor ferry to Winter Harbor at 9:30 a.m. and the Downeast Explorer Tours bus will meet you at the docks upon arrival. The tours on Tuesday and Wednesday include visiting galleries and shops around the Schoodic Peninsula, travel through scenic fishing villages, and a classic Maine Lobster Bake at The Camp at Point Francis in Corea. On Monday, Thursday and Saturday it is the Downeast Maine Blueberry Barrens Tour. Visit Cherryfield, the Blueberry Capital of the World. A morning stop includes fresh brewed coffee and homemade donuts at Lois’ Grill. Travel includes sections of the Baseline Road and the Downeast Ice Age Trail. Views of the Great Heath and an on-board historian are sure to delight. Lunch in Cherryfield and stops at local shops, a winery, an art gallery and a bit of “antiquing” complete your day. Other tours and custom tours are available. The Camp at Point Francis is a beautifully remodeled, rustic two bedroom (sleeps at least 6) camp located just steps from the ocean’s edge on Gouldsboro Bay in Corea. If offers you the opportunity to “get away from it all” with no electricity or standard phone service (cell phone reception is available). Gas lights, gas range, refrigerator/freezer, modern portable toilets, wood stove and a camp-style shower with heated water in the shed provide all the comforts for your relaxing vacation on the Maine shore.
