The American Red Cross of Northern and Eastern Maine provides compassionate care to those in need. Our dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and employees share a mission to prevent and relieve suffering in Maine and around the world, through five key service areas: Disaster Relief The Red Cross responds to more than 500 disasters across Maine every year, ranging from home fires and winter storms and flooding. When these emergencies arise, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and clothing, as well as and emotional support to help families and communities throughout the recovery process. Although not a government agency, the Red Cross plays an essential role in disaster response efforts. We work in partnership with other agencies and organizations that provide services to victims including fire departments, social services and local and county emergency management. Lifesaving Blood Nearly four million people donate blood through the Red Cross each year, helping provide more than 40 percent of America’s blood supply. We count on 350 Mainers to give blood each and every day to ensure we have enough blood and blood products on hand to meet the needs of Maine. Health and Safety Services From CPR and First Aid to Lifeguard and Babysitter training, the Red Cross is the nation’s leading provider of health and safety courses. Each year, more than 18,000 Mainers participate in our training programs, including first responders, educators, babysitters, and people who want to be prepared to help others in an emergency. Supporting America’s Military Families The Red Cross helps military members, veterans, and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to the challenges of military service. Emergency communications, training, support to wounded warriors and veterans, and access to community resources help an average of 150,000 military families and veterans annually across the country. International Services The American Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, with 13 million volunteers in 187 countries. Working together, we meet the needs of the world’s most vulnerable communities through effort that include disaster responses, community-based programs, and vaccination campaigns..
