Ellsworth -Masquerade balls were grand events in medieval France to celebrate the start of Carnival season or royal weddings. This holiday season, we’d like for people to feel like royalty at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital’s 26th Annual Poinsettia Ball, a “Masquerade.”  Long-term partners for this charity event, presenting sponsors, R. H. Foster Energy, LLC and Machias Savings Bank are pleased to invite people to attend.

The event will be held at a new venue this year, the Acadia Events Center in Trenton on Saturday, December 2, 2017.  Red poinsettias will adorn the 16-foot tall tree that gives this event its name, Chipper’s Restaurant and Catering will present a fancy buffet dinner. The “Larry Williams Band” will provide dancing music until 11 pm.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. Recent patient Jean Wood (shown in photo) gives a glowing review of the care she received.

“The staff at the Mary Dow Center is absolutely phenomenal in the medical care and emotional care that they give,” Jean said, “Patients are very lucky to have this quality of care available. I cannot thank them enough for walking me through this tough journey.”

Maine Coast Memorial Hospital has raised more than $800,000 from the Poinsettia Ball, since its inception, with all of those funds benefitting patient care at MCMH. We are still seeking businesses that would like to sponsor the Poinsettia Ball with a donation that will directly benefit cancer patients at the Mary Dow Center.  Donations can be made online at or by calling 664-5311 ext. 2305.

There is currently a waitlist for tickets for the Ball but volunteers are still needed     to help with the event. People can call the same number above if interested in either being added to the wait list or for more information on volunteering at the event.
