Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Host Dinner to Recognize Emergency Responders
Ellsworth – Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, with the support of Machias Savings Bank, hosted emergency responders from Hancock and Washington Counties for an Emergency Responders Appreciation Dinner on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 5:30 pm in the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital cafeteria.
The hospitals were pleased to have the opportunity to thank the men and women who are frequently the first people to see our patients in their greatest time of need. “On any given day, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers help save lives by responding to medical emergencies, including heart attack, difficulty breathing, fall or accidents, drowning, cardiac arrest, stroke, drug overdose or acute illness,” explains says Kelly Collins, RN BSN CEN, CPEN, Director of the Emergency Department at MCMH. EMS provide both basic and advanced medical care at the scene of an emergency and en route to a hospital. “They respond to difficult situations and dangerous environments, often putting their safety on hold for their patient. EMS providers care for immediate medical needs while exhibiting heartfelt care and compassion to their patients in their most difficult moments. They are critical to the health and safety of the communities they serve and we are proud to be affiliated with these heroic providers,” says Collins.
MCMH honors a local team of responders each year with the “Outstanding Emergency Call of the Year” award based on nominations received from the community. This year’s recipient was Hancock’s Volunteer Fire Department and EMS for responding to a two-vehicle accident in November that in addition to themselves, involved the cooperation of County Ambulance, Hancock County Sherriff’s Office, the Maine State Police, the Sullivan Fire Department, Life Flight, EMMC, and Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.
