“Isaac Woodard – Forgotten Hero” by Delvyn Case and Stanley Katz

MHTL’s Maine Playwright’s Contest winner, Isaac Woodard – Forgotten Hero, by Delvyn Case & Stanley Katz will be presented as a staged reading Saturday January 18 @ 7 pm. Isaac Woodard, a 26 year old black man and decorated WWII veteran, while on his way home with an honorable discharge and still in uniform, was beaten, blinded and jailed by South Carolina white police on Feb 12 1946. No convictions were handed down.
On Feb 8, 2019 a historical marker was unveiled on the site of the beating to acknowledge the attack and its impact upon the civil rights movement.
