Happy New Year! 2020

Welcome to a new month, a new year and a new decade!  The Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce would like to thank you all for your support, and what you give to this area, with your businesses and organizations. A thriving community needs you all; to offer your services, welcome our visitors, and give back in ways that keep us all alive and vibrant.  Before we look ahead, we want to take an opportunity to share with you, what your chamber support did for us all.

Business After Hours took on a different twist, with many businesses, making their event about assisting nonprofits and the community.  Jones Kuriloff and Sargent attorneys held a business after hours where we all stuffed bags for birthdays, with cake mix and more, toiletries, socks and clothing, all destined for the homeless shelters, the police, food pantries and other organizations.  Stanley Subaru saluted its 20th anniversary by giving back to 5 nonprofit organizations with donations given during a celebratory Business After Hours.  King Electric hosted a Business After Hours for the Leadership Hancock County program, and Dental Associates hosted a Business After Hours for Open Door Recovery Center. These generous businesses not only provided a member social hour but raised the visibility of the organizations they honored.  The Chamber would love to continue with this shared Business/ Nonprofit model in 2020!

Annual Meeting honored the Boles family of Coastal Auto Parts/NAPA with the Top Drawer Award, in a large ‘pop up’ event center in their parking lot.  The huge clear top and white sail tents could be seen on the skyline from many locations around Ellsworth.  The event sold out, as 400 plus members of the community turned out to celebrate NAPA, Citizen of the Year Jackie Sinclair of Community Closet, and several businesses honored with awards.  Wallace Events once again gave us an Event Space where none had existed.  It was beautiful, comfortable and memorable.

Discover Ellsworth was a marketing and promotional piece that WABI asked the Chamber to assist with.  The first show aired from August to Septembers Autumn Gold Weekend, with information on waterfront concerts, summer events, and in depth looks at several Ellsworth Businesses.  The show was such a hit, that two shows were completely sold, for the holiday season, as well as a co-branded WABI/ Ellsworth Chamber dining card. Visitors and community members alike got a snapshot of what’s going on, where to eat, what to do, and where to shop in Ellsworth.

Hancock County Business Conference, a program of the Chamber, hosted a full day conference campus style in Downtown Ellsworth.  The morning began at The Grand with a keynote address from Said Eastman of Jobs in Maine.com, then broke to locations around downtown for 9 different workshops.  Lunch and a local media panel was held in the JB Atlantic building with assistance from Heart of Ellsworth.  The day ended with a happy hour, at The Grand. Speakers came from organizations all over the state to provide information on business startup, business succession, financing, HR issues, corporate culture, and much more. The business conference happens every other year, with a trade show “Business After Dark” scheduled for November 2020.

Autumn Gold had probably its biggest Saturday ever.  With perfect autumn weather, close to 200 cars registered for the car show, 400 people tasted chowder on the waterfront, and hundreds took free boat rides on the Union River…and those were just the Chamber hosted events! Road races, golf tournaments, kids’ activities, craft sales, and more rounded out the weekend. With more than three decades of business participation, Autumn Gold continues to be the Chamber’s signature weekend.  Looks like there is more to come in the decade ahead!

Membership Benefits continue to be part of our daily ‘to do’ list here at the Chamber office.  Whether its our popular Member’s First Cards, Maine’s Best Regional Guide,  our Leadership Hancock County program, our full service Visitor Center, with maps, brochures, and Acadia National Park Passes, or a ribbon cutting event, we have many options that you can take advantage of with chamber membership. Year-round events, like March Dine Around Month, Early Bird Shopping, Shop $20 on the 20th, or Small Business Saturday, the  Chamber always has something happening that can provide you with service, marketing, networking, increased business, education or just plain fun all at the cost of your yearly membership.  We invite you to take time to review what we can do for you and your business or organization.

As we head into a new year and a new decade, the staff of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce, wishes you a wonderful New Year. We look forward to providing you with continued growth, support and a community of organizations that provide quality of life in Downeast Maine.
