GoldenOak to Play for Local Hunger Relief Initiative
Ellsworth – A live concert featuring New England folk band, GoldenOak is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, 2019, at The Grand. Ticket sale proceeds will benefit Healthy Acadia’s Downeast Gleaning Initiative, a farm-based food collection and donation project that feeds people experiencing hunger with surplus nutritious produce.
Since 2013, the Gleaning Initiative has redirected nearly 228,000 pounds of locally grown and raised food to pantries, school backpack programs, community meal programs, and other agencies across Hancock and Washington counties. The volunteer-driven gleaning team organizes the collection of fruits and vegetables from local farms and markets, helping to reduce food waste while providing those in need with an opportunity to maintain a healthy diet and reduce diet-related disease.
GoldenOak, comprised of sibling musicians Zak and Lena Kendall, Mike Knowles, and Jackson Cromwell, is an emerging sound in New England folk music. The band’s most recent EP, “Foxgloves” was voted “EP of the Year” by the Portland Music Awards.
Event sponsors include The Grand, Clothes Encounter (Ellsworth), Cleary Law (Ellsworth), and Maine Sea Coast Vegetables (Hancock); media sponsors: Star 97.7 and GWI; and media partners WERU Community Radio, WKIT 100.3FM, and Townsquare Media Bangor.
Doors open at 7:00 pm and music begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $18 each in advance or $20 at the door. Purchase tickets online at www.thegrandonline.org.
