Get Fresh, Get Local with FarmDrop
MDI – Healthy Acadia is partnering with Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) to extend the season of FarmDrop – our online farmers’ market – on Mount Desert Island. Starting June 15, MDI FarmDrop customers can pick up their orders at the MCHT barn in Somesville, located just 500 feet up the road from FarmDrop’s current location at Floret. Customers will pick up their orders at this location until operations return to Floret in the fall.
Since MDI FarmDrop’s launch in January, the online market has infused over $25,000 into the local food economy. The project was originally intended to be a fall and winter operation, but the positive response from the community and the opportunity to operate out of MCHT’s spacious barn for the summer months has allowed the convenient online shopping experience to become a year-round opportunity for local food enthusiasts. “I’m delighted with every product I’ve gotten from FarmDrop. I absolutely love it!” – Joanne Harris, MDI FarmDrop customer.
FarmDrop customers choose from a variety of local vegetables, meat, eggs, dairy products, fresh seafood, and preserves, make a single payment, and pick up their order weekly at the FarmDrop site. Customers choose exactly what they want and how often they shop – no commitment necessary. Farmers are benefited by reducing their time spent off the farm and the security of a harvest-to-order operation.
Visit mdi.farmdrop.us between Saturday 10am and Thursday 10am to place your order. Beginning June 15, order pick-up will take place on Friday afternoons from 3-6pm at the MCHT barn in Somesville, located across from their office space at 1034 Main Street.
Healthy Acadia also operates FarmDrop in Blue Hill.
