Fire in the Commons to play at Ellsworth Church Fundraiser
Ellsworth—The new music group, Fire in the Commons, will be performing at a fundraiser for MidMaine YoUUth at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ellsworth on March 16, 2018, from 6 pm to 8 pm at 121 Bucksport Road, Ellsworth. Donations will be accepted and refreshments will be served. For more information contact the UU Church of Ellsworth at 207-667-4393 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The program will begin with two songs performed by Bucksport residents, Shawn and Maizey Mercer; followed by words from participants in MidMaine YoUUth; and ending with an hour-long concert by Fire in the Commons.
Youth from the Unitarian Universalist Congregations in Belfast, Ellsworth, Bangor, and Rockland will be travelling to New York in April to attend an international conference sponsored by the United Nations office of the Unitarian Universalist Association. While there, they will tour the United Nations’ New York headquarters. The youth group has been meeting and preparing to attend this conference, through study and reflection on the many aspects of the current refugee crisis, for several months.
Fire in the Commons is an intergenerational music group committed to empowering people through powerful original songs. Based in Downeast Maine, they perform in concerts, rallies churches and anywhere people gather to work for solidarity, freedom, peace, and simply lifting spirits in with a joyful roar. The group’s focus is to bridge cultures and build community with music that moves people to sing, in addition to songs that will move them to act.
