FarmDrop Expands to MDI New MDI site, redesigned Blue Hill site launched

Healthy Acadia is thrilled to announce the January 6 launch of two new FarmDrop websites. FarmDrop, the online farmers’ market that has connected Blue Hill consumers and food producers since 2011, has a newly designed website located at https://bh.farmdrop.us. An all-new FarmDrop serving consumers in the MDI region is located at https://mdi.farmdrop.us.

Supported by Healthy Acadia and powered by volunteers, FarmDrop brings community and local food economy back into the heart of downtown rural Maine. FarmDrop customers enjoy the convenience of shopping from home, and with a quick stop downtown to pick up their orders, they avoid the potential long lines, crowds, and the stress of meal-planning while at the grocery store or farmers’ market. Farmers are benefited by minimal time spent off the farm and the security of a harvest-to-order operation.

FarmDrop also offers customers two ways to support local food security initiatives. Its 10% handling fee directly supports Healthy Acadia’s Gleaning Initiative and, on the Blue Hill site, a donation option supports Healthy Peninsula’s Magic Food Bus. The FarmDrop model helps to bring more local food into the homes of individuals and families with limited food budgets. Learn more about Healthy Acadia’s Gleaning Initiative at www.healthyacadia.org.

FarmDrop customers choose from a variety of seasonal vegetables, meat, eggs, dairy products, fresh seafood, and preserves from local farmers and producers. Once weekly, orders are delivered to the FarmDrop site and sorted by volunteers for pickup.

Blue Hill FarmDrop (bh.farmdrop.us) is open from 10am on Saturday to 10am on Wednesday each week. Order pick-up is on Thursday, from 2-5pm, at Fairwinds Florist, 5 Main St. Blue Hill.

MDI FarmDrop (mdi.farmdrop.us) is open from 10am on Saturday to 10am on Thursday each week. In partnership with A Climate to Thrive, weekly pickup of FarmDrop orders and a small Winter Farmstand take place on Fridays, from 2-6pm, at Floret Florist Shop, 1043 Main Street, Mount Desert.
