FAMILIES FIRST COMMUNITY CENTER RECEIVES CRITICAL FUNDING      FROM TWO DONORS TO COMPLETE THEIR HOUSE FOR HOMELESS FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN

Ellsworth-    Families First Community Center recently received two substantial grants in the month of December. The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation awarded FFCC

$ 50,000.00 to cover the costs of their new heating system, and the Sunshine Lady Foundation awarded FFCC $ 175,000.00. The grant from the Sunshine Ladies, a foundation founded by Doris Buffett, will be allocated $ 125,000.00 for completion of the project and $50,000.00 to be used for start up costs. The group has been fundraising for several years. “Due to financial constraints we have had to rely heavily on volunteers to do much of the work.” states Terri Ouellette Board President. “This money will allow us to hire more skilled craftsmen and move ahead more quickly, which is critical at this time. Our goal is to open this May. For this to happen we will need the help of both volunteers and professional contractors. This will not be easy, but it is possible and now we can move ahead full steam ahead.” states Ouellette. FFCC will house six homeless families with children, and provide supportive assistance to others on an outreach basis. “We are so honored and grateful for these amazing gifts and the timing could not have been more perfect.” states Ouellette.  FFCC’s mission is to break the cycle of homelessness by equipping families with minor children with the skills they need to gain self sufficiency.
