Ellsworth Harbor Park to Come Alive with Sounds of FLASH! in the Pans
Benefit Concert Event for the Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center
Ellsworth—On Monday evening, July 30th, the Ellsworth Harbor Park will come alive and be transformed into an exciting, warm Caribbean atmosphere with the joyful sounds of FLASH! In the Pans, Maine’s celebrated steel drum ensemble.
The entertainment will begin at 5:30 with a performance by Stepping Out Line Dancers followed by the energizing sounds of Flash! In the Pans from 7:30 to 9 pm. In addition to the music and dancing, there will be a Silent Auction with over 50 gift certificates available, 50-50 raffle, and food will be available from both the Harris Harborside Take-out and the Darlings Ice Cream truck.
The love of steel pan drum music began in the heart of Maine’s Carl Chase when he was sailing in the Caribbean in 1973. Over the next seventeen years, Carl developed his knowledge of the steel drum and in 1990, FLASH! In the Pans was born. Over the years the group has grown to up to 35 members, has developed a large dedicated following and become one of the largest community-based steel-bands in the country. The group’s repertoire includes an eclectic mix of traditional calypso, pop, swing, blues, and classical pieces.
In the spirit of “giving-back” after many years of popularity and success, Flash! In the Pans, initiated a tradition of donating to area non-profit organizations. Each year the group chooses to share their success with several area non-profits by donating the proceeds from their designated concert. This year the group chose the Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center as the beneficiary of the July 30th event.
The Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center provides free resources, support and guidance to residents of Washington and Hancock counties who have been affected by cancer as well as their families, friends and loved ones.
