Bangor– The Board of Directors at Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC) announced that President & CEO Michael W. Aube will be leaving his current position in September of 2018.
Prior to joining EMDC, Aube served as the State Director for USDA’s Rural Development Services in Maine, a post he held for 8 years. During his time at EMDC, Michael has created strong partnerships throughout the region in an effort to create new economic opportunities in Eastern Maine. He was the driving force behind EMDC’s Re-Engineering the Region effort, and played a major part in bringing the Cross Insurance Center to Bangor, among many other economic development achievements.
“I have worked in the professional area of economic development for the past 40 plus years and have had the wonderful opportunity and honor to be at the helm of EMDC for over 21 of those years,” said Michael W. Aube. “EMDC is an outstanding organization with a focused mission and purpose. Over the next few months I commit myself to working on our continuous efforts, including building new partnerships and initiatives that achieve our goal of economic growth and opportunity for the region.”
Aube began his career in economic development working for Senator Muskie and Mitchell in Washington DC. He was Commissioner of the Maine Department of Economic Development under Governor McKernan. He was the developer of Maine’s Quality Center and was its first Director for the Maine Community College System. In addition, Michael served as regional representative for the US Department of Commerce.
The EMDC Board of Directors has designed a succession plan to ensure continuation of leadership for the organization. The Board has retained Starboard Leadership Consulting to guide and direct this process. “The Board extends a thank you to Michael Aube for his years of service and dedication,” said Micki Sumpter, Chair of EMDC’s Board of Directors. “During his tenure at EMDC, Michael has built a strong organizational foundation and recruited a staff that gives all of us on the Board great confidence in the future of the organization.”
“I look forward to my next chapter in economic development knowing that EMDC is in a strong position today as it begins its next fifty years of commitment to the region’s economic development initiatives,” said Aube.
