Downtown Ellsworth Businesses Receive Grants for Business-Boosting Projects
Several downtown Ellsworth businesses recently received grants to fund new technology projects through Heart of Ellsworth’s inaugural program, “Downtown Grants: 2020 Technology.” The program was made possible through a generous sponsorship by Machias Savings Bank.
Mini-grants of $500 or $1000 were awarded for need-based technical assistance and equipment that will help downtown business owners secure future economic opportunities. Awardees include; Atlantic Art Glass, Cute Knits, Fogtown Brewing Company, Morton’s Moo Handmade Ice Cream, Nisa Jewelry, Sugar Mags and Quiet Strength Yoga. Heart of Ellsworth’s Executive Director, Cara Romano, said, “We were pleased with the range of applications and while it was difficult not funding them all, we now have a deeper sense of our local small business needs and can work to build out the 2021 program with more resources.” Romano continued, “We are excited to see our downtown businesses expand their customer reach through video marketing, e-commerce, new websites, online marketing and live-streamed classes.”
All funded projects are expected to be completed by late fall 2020.
