Christmas at Woodlawn – A Celebration of Trees, December 1 to 23
Ellsworth – The trees will be lit and the holiday tea brewing as Woodlawn presents Christmas at Woodlawn – The Trees of Woodlawn, December 1 through 23. This annual custom is being offered in conjunction with Christmas in Ellsworth, A Maine Holiday – a collaboration of organizations working together to make Ellsworth a holiday destination!
The Trees of Woodlawn will include decorated trees by nearly forty area businesses and organizations. Woodlawn volunteer, Peter Lione, has once again created a masterpiece tree alongside the elliptical staircase. While heading to the second floor of the Black House, visitors will enjoy a bird’s eye view of this magnificently decorated 12-foot tree. To see a list of all the 2019 decorators, visit woodlawnmuseum.org.
The Christmas at Woodlawn calendar of events is filled with ways to celebrate the holiday season with family, friends and co-workers. Annual favorites all month include holiday house tours and afternoon high teas. On Saturdays, starting December 14, children (and adults) can visit with Santa on the sun porch as part of their tour. Woodlawn’s executive director, Joshua Torrance said, “We can’t wait to experience the delight of wide-eyed children sharing their wishes with Santa. We encourage families to bring their cameras and capture the holiday magic.”
The festively decorated Black House will be open daily, December 1 to 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a special audio tour on the history of Christmas at Woodlawn and in New England. Tour admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12, under 5 are admitted free. Group and school tours are available by appointment. The Woodlawn Gift Shop is open during regular museum hours with many unique gifts for holiday shopping.
