“Cakes for the Queen of Heaven” offered at Ellsworth Church
“Cakes for the Queen of Heaven” is a woman-honoring adult religious education curriculum of feminist theology exploring pre-Judeo Christian beliefs that worshipped the female as divine. This will be a five-week course for women meeting on Wednesdays from 2-4 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ellsworth at 121 Bucksport Road, Ellsworth. There is a $10 materials fee, and pre-registration is required. Please contact Eileen at the church at 667-4393 for more information and to register. The course will begin on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
The title of this course comes from a quote from the book of Jeremiah in the Hebrew Bible in which God spoke to Jeremiah, saying: “Do you not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather wood and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough to make cakes to the Queen of Heaven and to pour out libations to the Goddess, in order to anger me!” (Jeremiah, 7:17-18).
Carol Leonard will be leading the leading the course. Ms. Leonard is a midwife and author of the best-selling memoir, Lady’s Hands, Lion’s Heart, A Midwife’s Saga, Bad Beaver Publishing, 2010, and The Women’s Wheel of Life: Thirteen Archetypes for Woman in her Fullest Power, Viking Penguin, 1996.
Ms. Leonard was the first midwife licensed to practice legally in New Hampshire and has attended close to 1200 babies born safely in their own homes. She and her husband, Tom Lajoie, have built their dream home on 400 acres of tree farm in Ellsworth and are raising about 100 beavers that they argue about daily.
“Cakes for the Queen of Heaven” is offered by Carol Leonard at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ellsworth.
