Beth Wright Cancer Center Offers Programs on ZOOM Lafayette Family Cancer Center Director to Speak on April 30
Ellsworth – Although the COVID-19 global pandemic has required many non-profit and non-essential businesses to close their doors to public traffic in March, it did not knock out the ingenuity of those behind the scenes. Connecting with their clientele became more important than ever before. The board and staff of the Beth C. Wright Cancer Center announced in March that the office would be closing to the public but would be available by telephone and email each weekday from 9 am to 5 pm until state mandates are lifted.
The staff at the Center sprang into action, transferring many of its programs to the online platform of ZOOM. The group in collaboration with other service providers in the area, all understanding the importance of staying connected to the folks they serve, came together to bring important services to their clientele throughout the state.
Special one-time events are being offered. April 30 will bring two very timely and evoking discussions that will assist everyone during these difficult times, “Emotional Self-Care Through the Changes of Life” with Jan Watson, RN, will take place on Thursday, April 30 at 10:30 am, and at 1:00 pm, the Lafayette Family Cancer Center executive director, Allen L’Italien, RN will offer an interactive community discussion, “Lessons Learned: Providing Cancer Care in the COVID-19 Pandemic”. Registration is required for both events. Interested individuals can call the Center at 207-664-0339 to register.
The Center is also offering five of their own regular programs including the Safe Harbor Cancer Support Group; Be In Motion – Exercise Class; Gentle Yoga; Prostate Cancer Support Group; and a monthly Mindfulness class. The Center is collaborating with Caring Connections and Open Arms Cancer Support Group to offer their groups online as well.
The Beth Wright Center staff are offering Zoom one-on-one tutorials to anyone interested in learning how to use the free software. To request a lesson or to explore upcoming or new programs, call 207-664-0339 go to www.bethwrightcancercenter.org or their Facebook page.
