Autumn Gold is almost here!

The Chamber’s largest event of the year, Autumn Gold, brings hundreds of visitors to the Ellsworth Area. Each year, the signature events include the Autumn Gold Car Show and Chowderfest, but there is so much more to see, do and taste this year.

The annual Car Show now in its 33rd year will return to the Home Depot parking lot with special guest, Busch National Champion, Andy Santerre. Kids will enjoy the Anah Shrine miniature NASCAR unit cars. But the real stars are the well over a hundred vintage and new cars in over 20 categories competing for trophies, with their proud owners. Food vendors, music and a great atmosphere for automobile lovers everywhere has always made this a popular event for Autumn Gold. Corporate sponsor for the car show this year is NAPA auto parts. Registration is sponsored by PCT communications. Computer Services by Rockett Computer. Admission for the public is free. Registration for car owners is from 8am-10am for $10.00 The Annual City Cruise of cars will take place immediately after the auto show awards around 1pm.

Chowderfest at Harbor Park on the city’s waterfront begins at 11:30. Up to nine of the area’s chefs compete in two categories, best clam and best seafood chowder. Prizes for this food competition include the People’s Choice as well as a Judges Choice in each category. The general public can buy a ticket for $5.00 and taste all the chowders and vote for their favorite. Live music by Bobbi Lane and the EHS Show Choir, as well as the Boy Scouts Grill make this a fun lunch stop on Saturday the 24th. Chowderfest is sponsored by EBS, Merrill Furniture, Maine Shellfish, and Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound, with computer services from Computer Essentials.

Rounding out the celebration on the Waterfront, are free boat rides on the Union River, beginning at 1p.m. this year due to low tides earlier in the day. Then a new event, the Autumn Gold Beer and Wine tasting tent, sponsored by Coastline Homes, will open at 1p.m. for those 21 and older. Vendors include Catherine Hill Winery, Atlantic Brewery and Ellsworth’s new Airline Brewery. Tickets for tasting are $10.00. Shuttle services will run all day to the larger venues, Home Depot, Mill Mall, and Harbor Park for your convenience. Don’t forget to buy your Jumbo Jackpot tickets at all the venues. This year the Chamber is offering a 50/50 ticket. $10.00 gives you 12 chances at what could be a cash value of up to $10,000, dependent on ticket sales.

The Mill Mall and Maine Coast Mall will have family events, food, crafts and other fun vendors on Autumn Gold Saturday. Check our website regularly for updates. Downtown Business Association will hold a street concert Friday night, with the Crown Vics. 6-8pm Acadia Realty Parking lot. The city celebrates fall’s favorite weekend with Autumn Gold flags and décor. Many businesses take part in the Autumn Gold decorating contest, each year, decorating windows or storefronts festively. Winners of the decorating contests are announced at the Autumn Gold Business After Hours, taking place this year at the Moore Community Center. The Business After Hours will be cohosted by Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and the Downeast Family YMCA. Members and their guests are invited to attend on Thursday September 22 , 5-7pm for food, drinks, prizes and fun.
