Artist Gay Paratore to teach Sponge Painting with Acrylics at Woodlawn

Ellsworth – Artist Gay Paratore, will teach Sponge Painting with Acrylics on Friday, July 19 from 10:00am to 4:00pm in Woodlawn’s Sleigh Barn. Sponge painting with acrylics is an easy to learn technique, even for a novice painter. Students will learn how to dab, streak and smear to create clouds, mountains, water, bushes, trees and flowers in the grass. By the end of the session, students will create one, 16 X 20 painting. Subject matter and sponges will be provided by the instructor. Students will also learn how to make a variety of painting sponges, each with a different texture, which makes painting with them fast and fun.
Gay recently won the Award of Excellence #1 in the 44th Annual Western Federation of Watercolor Societies’ exhibit held this year at the San Diego Watercolor Society in May. She is the founder of the National Society of Artists and a former Art Department Head of Alvin Community College. Gay’s work is currently being shown in California, Colorado, Texas, Maine and New York and is in collections throughout the USA, Spain, and China.
The cost is $80 for Woodlawn members and $90 for non-members. A list of supplies is available online and will be emailed to registered participants. As space is limited, pre-registration is required through the calendar at woodlawnmuseum.org.
