Ellsworth – Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital and presenting sponsor Machias Savings Bank invite the community to jump on board the Poinsettia Ball Express to benefit women’s healthcare on December 1 at the Ramada Inn in Ellsworth.
This year’s Poinsettia Ball draws inspiration from the golden age of train travel, when passengers moved from town to town across Maine and beyond on the rails. Beautiful red poinsettias will adorn the signature 16-foot tree that’s a centerpiece of the event. A flavorful buffet dinner prepared by Chipper’s Restaurant and Catering will be followed by the Larry Williams Band, a Maine-based dance band known for getting people moving on the dancefloor.
Like the inaugural Poinsettia Ball held in 1992, proceeds from this year’s event will benefit obstetrics and maternity care at Maine Coast Hospital. Funds raised will be used to improve patient comfort, convenience, and safety.
“My three kids were each born at different hospitals,” says Vanessa Corey, whose third child was born at Maine Coast Hospital. “My experience at Maine Coast was wonderful. I feel very lucky that our community has such quality obstetrics and maternity care.”
“The very first Poinsettia Ball raised more than $9000 for what was then known as the Birthing Unit,” says Bette Pierson, a member of the Poinsettia Ball Planning Committee since its inception. “Prior to that time, there wasn’t a separate birthing area in the hospital. The Planning Committee is energized by the opportunity to support an area of the hospital that benefitted so greatly from our very first Poinsettia Ball.”
More than $860,000 has been raised at the Poinsettia Ball over the years, with every dollar staying in the community to support patient care at Maine Coast Hospital.
Machias Savings Bank has been a partner of the Poinsettia Ball since its inception. Contributing more than $120,000 over the ball’s 27-year history, the bank has been a catalyst for community wellness.
“The Poinsettia Ball is a true community event for the Greater Ellsworth region,” says Machias Savings Bank President and CEO Larry Barker. “It’s amazing to see our friends and neighbors come together for the greater good, and health, of the community.”
