Healthy Acadia Introduces Tai Chi

 We all know life can be a hectic, juggling work, family and social obligations. Why should you consider adding Tai Chi to your busy schedule? To help create balance. Tai chi is the perfect antidote to our fast-paced modern culture; it is an ancient Chinese practice that incorporates slow, gentle and controlled movement to improve relaxation, flexibility, concentration, and muscle strength.

Healthy Acadia is pleased to announce that four free eight-week “Tai Chi for Health” courses will be held in Brooksville, Stonington, Ellsworth and Machias beginning in August. While classes are free, a $5 donation is suggested.

Over three hundred people have participated in Healthy Acadia’s Tai Chi for Health classes since they began in 2015. What’s the Tai Chi appeal? These evidenced-based courses use a step-by-step teaching method, which makes Tai Chi easy and fun to learn. Tai Chi for Health can be enjoyed by people of all ages, at all levels of physical ability!

The Brooksville course will be held at the Brooksville Community Center, 1 Black Bear Road, Brooksville, on Mondays, from 9am-10am, beginning August 2 and continuing through October 2, 2017. from 9-10am. There will be no class on September 4.

The Stonington course will be held at the Island Community Center, 2 Memorial Lane, Stonington on Wednesdays, August 2 through September 20, from 1-2 pm.

Ellsworth classes will meet at the Moore Community Center, 133 State Street, Ellsworth, on Thursdays, August 10 through September 28, from 10:45am to 11:45am.

The Machias class will be held at the University of Maine at Machias’ Murdock Fitness Center, 116 O’Brien Avenue, Machias, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 29 through October 17, from 8:30am to 9:30 am.To enroll in the Stonington or Brooksville courses, call Mia at 326-9065.
